Art Box San Jose - Great Oaks Neighborhood

January 2023,

This mural installation is located in South San Jose and was sponsored by the Great Oaks neighborhood organization. The themes provided for this mural were: vibrant and scenic. Given that this project is a community based mural, I sourced inspiration from observing the hillsides of San Jose and the relationship between nature and the rich urban environment that makes up the South Bay. The imagery on the large box depicts a vantage point within the hillside looking down onto the glowing lights of the city with hopes of bringing the community closer to its natural environment.

Visual Philosophy Studios Rooftop Signage - San Jose

November 2022,

This project was commissioned by Visual Philosophy Studios and the overall goal was to enhance their visibility and presence with signage that fits within their brand identity. I worked closely with the studio team to select an appropriate typeface that reflected their brand and attract more community to the space. In addition to strengthening the companies identity, this project gave studio renters and employees a stronger sense of belonging and pride to perform within this space. This mural stretches about 80’ wide by 15’ tall and was applied with exterior latex paint to create a durable layer that would last against time and natural forces.

Artbox San Jose - Great Oaks Neighborhood

September, 2022

This public mural is located in South San Jose and is apart of the Artbox project which is operated by Phantom Gallery and Two Fish Design. The overall goal for this mural was to create a vibrant and scenic oriented design that would enhance the experience within the neighborhood. Both boxes work harmoniously with each other and their backgrounds to construct a narrative about the relationship we have with one another. The plants depicted in this mural represent both native and non-native species and are commonly found coexisting in our natural environment. Similarly, we all share a connection to the sun and the divine source of energy that carries us throughout our lives.

Create Flow Mural Workshop

August, 2022

This mural installation project was funded by Local Color and was in partnership with Steinberg Hard. In the form of a workshop, several assistants helped me paint the design as I guided them on technique and application practices. I approached the design with a paint by number style to allow for easy navigation. This mural is a representation of my brand identity that I’ve developed over several years for my art business. Create flow signifies the connectedness with the mind, body and soul when producing work that is in alignment with passion and purpose.

Artbox San Jose - South University Neighborhood

May, 2022

This public mural is part of a series of utility box art that was in collaboration with the Sun District, San Jose State University, and Phantom Galleries. The overall goal was to bring life to this high traffic area with a cultural themed mural that positively impacted the neighborhood. The mural stretches around all corners of the box and represents motifs from my cultural identity.

Tittle: A Yield of Affection

This is a recollection of my cultural identity that was passed down to me by my mother. At a young age, my mom would bring Talavera pottery and other folk art from her trips to Mexico and would decorate our home with colorful and intricate works of art. Along with these handmade souvenirs, she was captivated by the works of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. This mural is inspired by the motifs and imagery I grew up seeing and re-interpreted the calla lily to represent the beauty we harvest by nurturing our authentic selves.

Proposed Mural - Redwoodcity

This design was created for a proposal to the owners of this location in Redwoodcity, Ca. The project was not approved, but the ideas within this proposal are of high value and there are high hopes to land this design on a wall in the future. The themes within this design are composed of a modern take on Mexican iconography

Title: Break the Cycle

Becoming aware of our harmful habits is critical for the onset of change. Re-evaluating our perspective and our values has a direct effect on the impact we have on ourselves, each other and our environments. If we decide take responsibility for the changes in ourselves we can be empowered to contribute to the revolution happening outside of us, in our families, and in our communities. The chain link represents the trauma, doubt, and obstacles we face individually and collectively to have a fulfilled existence in this physical world.

Peacock and Branches - Mural Installation

January 2020,

My close friend invited me to collaborate on this private commission in a backyard in Berkley, Ca. The client wanted a peacock and some branches that resembled the color tones in the mosaic art below it. Mario and I painted the mural on two 4’x6’ plywood boards and installed them on a shed that faced our clients yard. To complete the mural, we decided to blend the background of the piece onto the visible parts of the shed creating a cohesive mural installation.
